Black & White Gothic #1

Douglas Mathurin

“To photograph means to participate in the death, pain, and changeability of other human beings or things. By pin pointing this very moment and having it frozen, all photographers give testimony of the fluidity of time.” I borrowed this from the artist and photographer Hubert Balze who lived and worked in Augsburg, Germany. His art inspired me to view my work as more than just a hobby but as a lifetime vocation and, that photography is more than just a craft but is an art form in itself. To this day I carry around an invitation that Herr Balze gave to me in 1991. I keep this to remind me of why I love art and why I love photography.
